Wasel, professionally known as Wasel/Mr. Colombia, is a poet, songwriter, composer, entrepreneurand philanthropist. Before the release of his single Solo Amigos, hecollaborated with artists Don Dinero and Chris Gotti and signed with the Ambitious Writers Music label.
Wasel hails from Cali, Colombia. His family brought him to America at the age of 5, ending up in Houston via New York City and Chicago. Abandoned by his mother, Wasel became the sole caretaker of his baby sister when he was 16. His teenage years were riddled with instability, drugs and violence as he struggled to survive without family support. He dropped out of school, was shot three times, got in trouble with the law and found himself in prison at 24.
But that turmoil was a turning point for the young artist. With a promise to make a better life for himself and his little sister, Wasel found a new lease on life and focused his energies on an honest day’s work, learning and writing. He started a business and worked tirelessly to grow into a company he would be proud of. His drive to overcome his past defined the person Wasel is today.
His music is influenced by many iconic rap artists, including Tupac and Eminem, while embracing the Reggaeton style of artists such as Daddy Yankee and Don Omar. The fusion of both genres meant he gained insights and respect for the art and people of both cultures.
Wasel describes his music as multilingual Hip hop with Mind & Soul rhythms. His strong crossover style is real and personal, capturing the nuances of everyday experiences. Each song stands on its own like afootprint of his life history. His melodies— from mid-tempo flow tosharp lyrical— have personalities thattouch and move the hearts and souls of his fans worldwide.
His relaxed delivery style evolved from the music he loved as a child. Additional influences include Tito Rojas, Eddie Santiago and Biggie.
Wasel believes in philanthropy as an essential element of his artistry, with community service as a driving force. With a goal to become a positive role model for today’s youth, he has partnered with many charities to provide support and educational guidance for youth literacy projects and entrepreneurship programs. His passion is evident: Wasel would like to change the world by advancing peace, harmony and understanding among people and cultures.
